Musings of a confused Doc

The post-holiday week started out in typical whirlwind fashion.  Assignments due (can someone remind me why I am doing a Masters while working?), start of a new rotation with 1 in 4 call (again, I chose to do this, WTF is wrong with me), my own pre-holiday patients needing follow up, meetings, and a mountain of paperwork.

Now that I'm back into the swing of things, I'm really thinking more about what is important in life.  It sounds corny, yes. Agreed. But being happy and having time to spend with people you care about is increasingly becoming a top priority, in a way it wasn't a few years ago when "school school school work work work" was my mantra, and 60 to 80 hour work weeks were the norm.

This comes on the heels of being offered another job position with Hospital X.  As some of you know, a certain Doc had originally planned on working at Hospital Y come summer.   This should be a positive, having another offer to consider, but in fact it has thrown me for a loop and my anxiety level over what to do when all of this is over is rapidly increasing.   Part of me wonders if I should be doing this at all - or if I should be going in a totally different direction.  Is this where I am after 9 years of post-grad education???  Do we all feel this way, just a little bit, but hide it because we're not sure what to do next, and we're past the mid-twenties phase of life?

I guess time will tell.  For now, I'm lucky to have a certain designer to help me on my way...who says that even if I decide to work in part-time waste disposal he'll still stick around.

Friends, Food and The End of Holidays

Uuuughh.  Work in less than 12 hours and motivation is nowhere to be found.

The Doc starts a new 3-month rotation tomorrow, which should be great for learning but not so great for sleeping/having a life.  The Designer returns to the daily grind, though currently things have ground to a halt.

On a happier note, tonight we had great fun mourning the end of the holidays with the ever-jet-setting Swiss Mister and Miss.  Though in town for only a short while, we were able to see them on Christmas Eve AND for drinks and some pub grub tonight at the always popular Victory Cafe!

What else did we do on our holiday, you ask?  Well, here's a list of highlights for your enjoyment:

1 - hosted Christmas Eve at our (new-ish) house.  Woot!
2 - took the Designer for his first ever spa day at Ste Anne's Spa, and stayed at the parents' place out East
3 - watched an incredible amount of movies...and TV in general (Pawn Stars, anyone?)
4 - saw Harry Potter, The Deathly Hallows - Pt 1 (and were both disappointed...where did the plot go?)
5 - got a new bird feeder, which has been making it harder for the squirrels to destroy vs. our old feeder
6 - had two very fun people, Sophia and Rob, over for dinner (made from our new Julia Child French Cookbook...thanks Kim & Bruce! Mmm!)...this was followed by drinks downtown and a 2am hot dog.

We did get to see quite a few of you over the holidays, but have been missing others...so come visit us at the new pad!  We promise Southern-style hospitality, hot beer and cold women.

In totally unrelated news...at the end of every blog entry I'm going to try to leave you with something funny. For starters: does anyone else think this picture is amazing?  Because I now have it as wallpaper on my new Mac Book Pro:

Designer here...for some reason Doctor cannot write what she would really like to say. So I will do it.

Happy New Year Rob Ford, you fat useless fuck!

Designer and Doctor OUT!

Welcome to 2011

Hello and welcome, blog followers!

This year, we decided to start off with a bang.  After the viagra wore out, we decided a blog would be a good idea as well.

Why, you may ask?  Well, for starters, some of our friends have blogs that are highly entertaining.  Also, many of our friends live out of the city (or country) and it is a great way to stay connected.  And finally, we wanted a place to bitch about life's disappointments and gain sympathy from our followers.

We're making some resolutions for this year.  The Doctor wants to stick to a fitness plan...for longer than a 3 month period.  She also wants to figure out what to do with her life when her training is done.  The Designer wants to be less grumpy.  In fact, while I am writing this, he's being very difficult.  Perhaps he'll even write his own posts in the future.

So here's to a wonderful year in 2011...and you better work on your bucket list, because the apocalypse is coming in 2012.
